Wrights Farm Saturday Afternoon Trial. 19th July 2025.
We are pleased to say that we now have the permit for the above event planned for the revised date of the 19th of July, The trial will be set out with Big Bikes in mind and will not be part of the Club Championship. We hope to have 8 sections to be ridden over 5 laps set in the hills and climbs in a location that’s as close to the North Sea as we can get!
It’s a Saturday afternoon social event with a good Fish and Chip Shop in the village for early lunch before the Trial, the venue is situated off the A1031 Mablethorpe to Cleethorpes Road, between the villages of Saltfleet and North Somercoates, Post code: LN11 7UA. If our observers could contact Carl Smith on his works number: 01529 304793, just to let him know that you are available we can make sure we have a section for you.
Thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you at Wrights. MG
June Committee meeting notes/information
Poachers committee members meet on Tuesday evening for a quick discussion on our involvement with the NBBC Reliance Cup Trial and to discuss other items that have been voiced by members of the Club with the view of possible change.
Club Championship: as many of you are aware there was a degree of poor information on the website regarding the event on Good Friday at Biscathorpe Park, the trial did not show on the front page of the “Fixtures” section of the website, it was only when you followed the prompt in green text,
(Click on 2025 dates in a A4 printable pdf download) did you get our original fixture listing and Biscathorpe Park was included on the 18th but not marked with a small “c” or Asterix confirming its Championship status. We have always run this Trial as part of our yearly Championship and when I posted the information to open the Trial it was then set as an established Championship round. Seeing that the event was scheduled on a holiday weekend, we understand that several riders that were unable to enter, this may also affect their standing regarding the final Championship positions. So, with this in mind the committee as decided on the following changes to how the final positions are to be calculated.
The date for the Non-Championship Trial at Wrights farm has been moved forward to the 19th of July, still a Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. start time.
At the meeting, we welcomed two new committee members, John Guy and Steve Manning and we are pleased to confirm to our Club members the committee status as of the 17th of July 2025.
President: E Gowshall. Chairman: M Francis. Trials Sec & Treasurer: M Gallagher Membership Sec: D Hird. & Committee Men: H Allen, G Cannon, P Kirkby, N Neave, C Smith, J Guy and S Manning.
We are sure that if you have any suggestions or ideas how to improve our events, you will find it easy to chat to any of the above.
I look forward to receiving your entry for our next event at South Elkington which I hope to close on Thursday the 26th of June, so if you plan to join us, please get your form to me as soon as possible
Mike Gallagher.
The Club has just completed its second Road Trial for this year, as part of the Northern British Bike Championship, The Reliance has been held and conducted in partnership with South Liverpool Club since 2015, we are in fact celebrating our 10-year anniversary as stewards of this event. Working closely with Frank Anderton (Mr Reliance) we gain all the necessary permissions and Landowners approval to run this 26-mile event that visits some of the most iconic Trial’s land in the UK.
Of course, we couldn’t stage this event without a tremendous amount of help, over the 2 days before the Trial this year we were fortunate enough to enlist the following Poachers committee members to help over the Friday and Saturday: Nick Neave, Carl Smith, Steve Manning and Shaun Brown who helped with the setting out. Also, a special thanks to non-Poachers members Chris Gascoigne and Carl Winstanley who made the drive down from Preston to set out 4 groups of section on a very wet Friday.
Along with the help in setting out we couldn’t run the event without observers to man the 30 sections and this year we were luck enough to have the support from the Poachers membership, a special thanks goes to David Hird, Ian Brand, Shane and Karen Lockley, Bill Kirkwood, Dave and Brenda McGregor, Rose Hawcock, and Mark Boswell, joining us on the day was resident Poachers photographer, John Wilkinson who will have produced a fine set of pictures to look at. Finally, for helping at the last minute, Joy Brown made the signing on and event start so much easier. I do apologise if I have forgotten anybody.
We have attached a set of results, the Trial was set very much on the tough side, and it’s amazing to see a good spread of single figure scores on all classes. Hats off to Pete Ashmore and Liam Robinson on the 2-stroke expert class for keeping clean sheets….incredible.
Mark Francis and I welcome your feedback, either via Facebook or email.
Mike Gallagher.

Entry Procedure: In order to give me time to close the entry for all our events, we have usually tried to close it three days before the trial, we have been asked if this could be extended. Our online entry form will now remain open until midnight on the Friday before the event for Club Trials and your entry fee should be paid via BACS as soon as you receive the confirmation email.
We are happy to accept payment in cash on the day if you don’t have access to online banking facilities, but it is important that if you need to pay on the day with cash that you confirm that on your entry form, it can be included in your name e.g. Name followed by pay cash. As always, riding numbers will be issued at signing on and cash payments will be accepted at this time. Signing on closes promptly at 10:15, which gives us time for a quick riders briefing before our normal 10:30 start.
Again, thank you all for your continuing support. Any questions or suggestions to improve our events, please don’t hesitate to either drop me an email to entries@belton-4.co.uk , or if it is easier either text or call me on 07885 321428. MG
Championship for 2025: To qualify for our Club Championship you must hold a current Club membership. Club membership can be completed with David Hird our membership secretary at a cost of £10.00 per year, his details are on the Club website. Each individual round will count towards the Championship and no rounds will be dropped. Awards will be given to the first 3 places in each class. We expect all award winners to attend the presentation.
Observers and Officials: As a small way to say thank you to our loyal band of observers, we are increasing the payment that they get from £10.00 per event to £20.00 per event, we could not enjoy our sport without their help.
The observers draw has been incredibly successful with £590.10p collected over the 9 events with 8 individual winners, average amount per event works out at £65.50.
We are also looking for help when setting out our events, so if you would like to spend a few hours on the day before our Trial with a couple of the committee members, please let us know when you are available.
New Numbers System - September 2024
In order to make it easier for our observers to ensure that you are on the designated route that you have entered onto and to avoid the need to mark each individual riding number with coloured strips, we will be issuing the following style numbers:

Expert Route: Black No. / White

Inter Route: Green No. / White

Clubman Route: Red No. / White

A great friendly club
Running an average of 13 trials a year for pre 65 trials machines

About the club
Founded in 1988 and based in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, Poachers Pre65 Classic Trials is the East Midlands Premier Classic Trials Club. The club runs two rounds of the Norther British Bike Championship and 10 Club Trials that count towards the Club Championship, along with 2 annual Charity events.
Our events cater for riders of all abilities with the aim of running and promoting competitions within the spirit of Motorcycle Trials of the 50s and 60s.
In 1988 six members of the Lincoln AJS & Matchless Owners Club who shared a passion for Trials Bikes from the 50’s and 60’s staged their first observed Trial on the hillside above the Wolds village of Scamblesby, the sections were wide and free flowing, not quite as technical as today’s hazards.
It was a success and over a short period of time rider numbers increased and the Trials section was hosting six events per year. The aim of the club was to organise Trials that were as close to the events of the era, The clubs aim was to create a day’s sport that was both pleasurable and competitive.
With the growing popularity of Pre65 Trials the number of events steadily grew to the 13 per year that we currently run, this includes the ever-popular Christmas Charity Trial which raised over the years £20,000 for the Local Air Ambulance. The Clubs current designated charity is Andy’s Children’s Hospice that has benefited from donations in excess of £11,000
The club is probably better known as simply “Poachers Pre65 Classic Trials” it is affiliated to the AMCA. It has a strong committee and a loyal and passionate group of observers. We must also mention the strong links the club has with Famers and Landowners that allow us to use some of the best terrain in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
As well as its local events, Poachers Pre65 Trials co-ordinates the Northern British Bike Championship and takes pride in hosting two rounds of this prestigious traditional road trial championship.
Over the 30 plus years since formation the club has become the premier Midlands Classic Trials Club that supports purely British Pre65 Trials and promotes enjoyment and camaraderie amongst all its membership and events.
